Ria's Roadkill - Korean BBQ

Ria's Korean delivers one of the most unique flavor profiles of any jerky I have tried.

Redneck Seasonings Danse Macabre

Do you think you are man enough to take the heat from this jerky? I wasn't. This is the hottest jerky I have ever tried.

Ed's Custom Beef Jerky - Louisiana Teriyaki

Ed'd offers some of the best jerky I tried and this Teriyaki is my favorite sweet variety.

Ria's Roadkill Jerky - Cracked Pepper

The next Ria's Roadkill flavor I tried was Cracked Pepper. Like other Ria's flavors, Cracked Pepper is subtle, but pepper is the predominate flavor. However, in my bag there was a lot of black cracked pepper lying in the bottom of the bag. That's a lot of wasted flavor! Nevertheless, Ria's Cracked Pepper is one of my top jerkys.

The Long Beach, CA company was started in 2011 and is company is operated by Eden Van, Mr Van uses USDA Choice top round in his recipes. Ria's is available through Facebook and eBay. The jerky is hand-trimmed and machine sliced for consistency. The meat is then marinated for 48 hours. They use Hickory, Apple, and Cherry wood to smoke depending on the flavor. Beef jerky is smoked everyday, so that you will get it fresh and fast as possible.

Ria's Teriyaki  comes in bite-sized pieces so there is no need to "tear off a chunk". The pieces are moist, tender and slightly sticky.

Another benefit of Ria's Roadkill Jerky to those of us who ride on two wheels, the packaging is perfect for riding. The resealable bag will easily fit in my Goldwing glove box, or in a tank bag. You could even keep it in your jacket pocket. The bite-size pieces are also easier to manage when riding.

Ria's Roadkill Jerky - Teriyaki

This jerky is much lighter on teriyaki flavor than some others. I am beginning to see a pattern develop with every one of Ria's flavors. The flavors are much more subtle and the standout of Ria's jerky is the moistness and tenderness of the bite-sized pieces.

Ed's Custom Beef Jerky - Honey Garlic

Ed's Honey Garlic is a perfect blend of sweet and savory without the heat. This is a great all-round jerky that is very satisfying, yet has a unique flavor. The garlic flavor is mild and not overwhelming while the honey offers a gentle sweetness that is a winner.

Ria's Roadkill Jerky - Korean BBQ

Ria's Korean BBQ is one of the most complex jerky flavors I have tried. There's a lot going on here. I was expecting it to be hot, like a jerky version of Bulgogi, but this is more of a fruity, sweet flavor. The Korean BBQ is an acquired taste that you acquire very quickly. The more you eat, the more you want. very different and very good.

Ria's Roadkill Jerky - Spicy

Ria's Spicy is a nice blend of sweet and heat without being overpowering. The flavor of soy is prominent in all Ria's flavors, as is the sweetness of the sugar. That sweetness helps soften the heat from the Chili and Crushed Pepper..

Ria's Roadkill Jerky - Chipotle

My second Ria's flavor to try was the Chipotle. Unfortunately, there is very little Chipotle flavor. Only a mild hint. It is, after all, listed as the last ingredient on the list of ingredients. The Chipotle does feel a bit "stickier" than the original, but the flavor is very similar, perhaps a tiny bit spicier. It has a nice sweet and smoky flavor.

Ria's Roadkill Jerky - Original

Good things come to those who wait. Ria's was the last brand of jerky to arrive for my review (at least for Round 1) and it was well worth the wait. The original flavor is mild, slightly sweet and a bit smoky. This is upscale jerky that you would serve to guests at a wedding on a silver platter.

Redneck Seasonings - Danse Macabre

Danse Macabre comes with a "VERY HOT" warning on the label. It would be wise to take note. This is one of the hottest jerky I tried. And, the heat does not come on all at once. It starts slow, then builds. And then, it build some more. Let me correct myself. This is THE hottest jerky I tested. In fact, it is beyond my tolerance level, and I love heat.

Shurky Jurky - Artisan Jerky

Shurky Jurky referes to its jerky as "Classic Home Style Rip Tear Jerky". The package I received had a combination of beef and pork slices, both were very flavorful, with the beef being my favorite. Of course, there were not labeled so I am assuming the lighter color pieces were the pork slices.

Shurky Jurky is from scratch using real fruit and without any refined sugars, additives, or preservatives. The Oregon-based company even claims that their jerky pairs well with craft beers, wine and spirits!

Skurky Jurkey slices are paper thin, dry, but not tough. They tear very easily into smaller, bite-size pieces. My first impression was a little disappointed. But the more you try Shurky Jurky, the more it grows on you. It has a really fresh, chemical-free and natural beef or pork flavor. I would really like to try some of their other, more exotic flavors like Peppered, Spicy and Guajillo Chile.

Riding and Eating Tips
Shurky Jurky comes in a small plastic bag, but it is not resealable. However, since the jerky slices are dry, it is doubtful that you will lose additional moisture, but the pieces may find their way to other areas of your tank bag or jacket pocket. Best to put them in a Ziplock bag.

Ingredients: Beef, Bragg Liquid Aminos, Pineapple, Black Pepper, Cayenne Pepper, Onion, Garlic, Tamarind, Smoked Paprika, Vinegar and Anchovy Paste.

Bad Buds Beef Jerky - Hotternhail

If you are not quite up to the task of eating the Ghost Pepper, then the regular Hotternhail might be the logical choice. Hotternhail will deliver a nice hot kick without causing permanent damage to your tongue and lips.

Redneck Seasonings - Filet of Ghost

Fortunately, the Filet of Ghost jerky places brown and white sugar ahead of the ghost peppers in the ingredient list. The first taste is a sweet, salty flavor with surprisingly modest heat considering the source. In fact, the jerky is a bit too salty for my tastes.

Ed's Custom Beef Jerky - Green Habanero

Ed's Green Habanero has a definite kick. A slight vinegar flavor enhances the heat of the Habanero pepper heat. The heat comes on fast, but does not linger for an uncomfortable length of time. You can actually see the green habanero powder on the jerky pieces.
